Passenger Car Foreman
San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad- Alamosa, CO

Iowa Pacific Holdings, LLC (IPH) is a holding company for a series of freight and passenger railroads across the country. This position is for a Passenger Car Foreman at our San Luis & Rio Grande Railroad in Alamosa, CO. This position is responsible for supervising the passenger car staff, ensuring that deadlines in the shop are met, and for maintaining the tourist train; mechanically yet still meeting the standards of cleanliness for our customers. The primary role of Car Foreman is to uphold the various mechanical functions, with the main focus on the maintenance and upkeep of our passenger car fleet. The successful candidate will report directly to the Chief Mechanical Officer.

Job Requirements:
• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules, standards and regulations for safety, operations, and with the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
• Ensure compliance with all safety rules and enforce safe practices with subordinate employees
• Supervise passenger car crew to ensure car fleet is maintained and ready for service at the required time
• Work with Chief Mechanical Officer to assess and develop the estimate of time and material for projects in the shop
• Set proper deadlines based on employees’ skills and ensure deadlines are met
• Organize and maintain schedule of passenger car service dates and keep up with required work
• Maintain the car shop and yard in a clean and organized manner with an emphasis on safety of employees
• Work together and assist other foreman’s when needed to help complete projects
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with team members, customers, and management
• Perform other duties that may be assigned.

Other Preferred Skills
• Paint cars and locomotives
• Metal fabrication skills including use of torch, plasma cutter, mig, tig and stick welders
• Inspect car components for compliance with Federal Railroad Administration standards
• Identify or analyze defective components and indicate the necessary corrective action
• Remove and replace major components of cars including couplers, draft gears and yokes
• Build and/or repair components including electrical and plumbing components
• Operate light and heavy cranes, fork lifts, and other car moving shop equipment
• Re-rail cars and locomotives by using re-railing equipment and perform other work associated with wreck service on the railroad

Preferred Qualifications:
• Two (2) or more years of supervisory experience
• Five years (5) of railroad experience or equivalent work in mechanical field
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Must be familiar with passenger car air brakes including installing new systems, testing, and troubleshooting
• Self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision
• Detail oriented and organized
• Ability to work any day of week depending on workload
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to lift up to 70 pounds occasionally and up to 100 pounds on a rare basis
• Knowledge of safety rules and regulations to prevent on duty accidents and injuries
